{"id":17340,"date":"2024-06-03T09:24:18","date_gmt":"2024-06-03T09:24:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/clearingtheair.eu\/spanish-vapers-protest-flavour-ban\/"},"modified":"2025-01-07T12:08:03","modified_gmt":"2025-01-07T12:08:03","slug":"spanish-vapers-protest-flavour-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/clearingtheair.eu\/de\/post\/spanish-vapers-protest-flavour-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"Spanish vapers protest flavour ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"\"><strong id=\"\">Hundreds of Spanish vapers and small business owners held a demonstration outside the Ministry of Health on Friday to protest against the Spanish Government\u2019s intended legislation to ban flavours in vaping products.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"\">The protest comes as the government considers whether to move forward with a Royal decree banning flavours in vapes, which was the subject of a public consultation last month.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">Clearing the Air has covered the proposed ban extensively: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clearingtheair.eu\/post\/spains-proposed-flavour-ban-what-happens-next\" id=\"\">our summary of the state of play and next steps is here<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.clearingtheair.eu\/post\/spains-proposed-flavour-ban-what-happens-next\" id=\"\">and here in Spanish<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">The demonstration &#8211; which was jointly arranged by both UPEV (small businesses) and ANESVAP (consumers) &#8211; was held to mark World No Tobacco Day, and a day after World Vape Day.<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">\u00c1ngeles Muntadas-Prim, President of ANESVAP, summarised what the protests were all about:<\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"\"><p><em>&#8222;Any attempt to ban something that has saved lives is unacceptable; and this is why we\u2019re protesting\u201d<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"\">Muntadas-Prim was scathing about the Government\u2019s plans: the Sanchez administration has abandoned plans to further restrict combustible cigarettes while doubling down on targeting safer nicotine products:<\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"\"><p><em>\u201cIt is scandalous to drop plain packaging and taxes on cigarettes from the government\u2019s plan for smoking and focus exclusively on banning products that have saved the lives of over 700.000 former smokers in Spain\u201d<\/em>, she continued.&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"\">\u201cWe are the target of very serious accusations and lack of respect by senior officials of the Ministry, going so far as to label us as &#8217;subsidiaries&#8216; of the tobacco industry\u201d explained Arturo Ribes, President of UPEV, the trade association that represents small vaping businesses in Spain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p id=\"\">\u201cThe Ministry of Health wants to sink us by carrying out \u201cits anti-vaping plan\u201d, to put an end to our sector, our jobs and our way of life.
