Spotted: celebrities who vape

Here are some well-known celebrities who vape, with many attributing it to helping them quit smoking.

Katy Perry

Pop sensation Katy Perry is often spotted enjoying a vape in her downtime.

In 2013, she was photographed vaping while enjoying a bottle of beer. She also famously shared a vape with her now-husband Orlando Bloom, at the Golden Globe awards in 2016.

The 40-year-old singer – known for chart-topping songs I Kissed a Girl, Teenage Dream, and Firework – has posted pictures of herself vaping on her X account.

Perry has said she quit smoking and drinking when she got pregnant with the daughter she shares with Bloom, Daisy Dove.

She said: “When you stop drinking and smoking and start creating a baby your body is like ‘Well thanks for treating me nice for one day.’”

Richard Hammond

The former Top Gear presenter switched to vaping from smoking almost 10 years ago.

In 2022 on his YouTube channel ‘What Next?’, he played a game of chess with James May as he shared his cheeky trick to get away with vaping indoors.

He took a not-so-subtle puff of his vape before blowing the fumers into an empty gin glass.

“I’ve got away with that on airplanes,” he whispered. “I wonder if anybody’s vaping. Not that bloke with the steamed up gin and tonic glass, obviously,” joked James.

The 55-year-old was seen in 2023 puffing on a vape at London’s Savile Row.

Katie Price

The former glamour model has regularly been seen vaping on social media over the past year.

The 46-year-old said she wanted to quit in January this year due to her mum’s Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis diagnosis and lung transplant in 2023.

However, earlier this month she shared a YouTube video of herself vaping in her front room. She was also seen vaping last week on an outing in Cheshire during Panto rehearsals.

Kylie Jenner

Last year, the youngest Kardashian Kylie Jenner filmed herself blowing out rings from a vape in her luxury car and posted it to Snapchat.

Some fans questioned the mum-of-two’s ability to be a role model, branding her a “stoner.” But others pointed out she wasn’t smoking weed and that vapes emit a vapour rather than smoke.

Joe Swash

Joe Swash, Eastenders actor and husband to reality show star Stacey Solomon, has been seen enjoying the occasional vape.

He recently sneaked out of the RTS Awards where his wife picked up an award for her show, Sort Your Life Out, to puff on a vape.

Last year Stacey admitted she was struggling to quit smoking. The mum-of-five said: “As soon as you get pregnant, you think you need to stop. I did smoke between five and ten a day, but I completely cut down and from there on I have been trying to stop.”

I’m smoking between one and three a day, if that… I just thought I would be able to quit.

“And some days I’ve done really, really well and had none but there are some days when I have had some. I’m doing my best to just go without, but sometimes it’s not just as easy to cut it out.”

Leonardo DiCaprio

Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio used to be snapped with a cigarette often but swapped it out for a vape several years ago. He was pictured in 2014 vaping at his table at the Oscars awards ceremony but doing so was banned inside this year.

Back in 2016 when he won his first SAG award for The Revenant, he was also seen vaping.

Lily Allen

The British singer was often spotted with a cigarette in her early days of fame but has since switched to vaping.

She was seen at the  Cheltenham Racecourse in 2019 enjoying a fruit flavoured vape. She was also spotted last year in Tuscany relaxing by the pool with a vape.

In 2019 Lily Allen, along with fashion designer Henry Holland and photographer Rankin, collaborated with vaping brand Vype to develop a new collection. Lilly said she was drawn to Vype because she’s been a smoker for many years and needed an alternative.

However, Vype was later banned by the Advertising Standards Authority from promoting vapes on social media.

Sophie Turner

Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner was seen vaping on set and she later revealed it was ‘creme brulee’ flavoured.

She has said vaping helps her get into her roles while filming.

Jennifer Lawrence, who worked with Sophie in the blockbuster X-Men, told chat show host Jimmy Kimmel: “I teared up a little bit watching Sophie in that scene.

“It was so honest and real, and it’s because she really was crying because her dialect coach, right before the take, took her Juul away…She started genuinely tearing up. It was like the performance of the year. It was amazing.”

Angela Rayner

The UK’s Deputy Prime Minister is often caught secretly vape while at work.

The 47-year-old has also been spotted vaping outside her London home. In 2023, Angela joked that her children called her a ‘vape dragon.’

Speaking to Sky News, she said: “I wish I could give up vaping. I’m going to do my utmost to make sure that I do that.

“And young people need to know that vaping is not a way forward and they should not get addicted to it because it is incredibly addictive and costly as well. So they need to stop.”

Cara Delevingne

The British supermodel was spotted puffing away on a vape back at a Knicks game in 2014. She has also been seen vaping with pal Michelle Rodriguez.

The 32-year-old said she swapped to vaping from smoking as it’s a healthier alternative.

Kate Garraway

TV presenter Kate Garraway was seen vaping back in 2019 while attending Wimbledon.

The mum-of-two said she switched to vaping from smoking after she gave birth to her son in 2009.

She said: “..my experience was, after Billy was born, I did smoke before and I was craving going back to smoking [but] didn’t want to.

“I thought [vaping] was amazing, because it didn’t smell, at that point you could do it anywhere, it must have been like smoking in the ’70s, you didn’t have to stand outside.”
