    Jack Nicholson

A-lister Jack Nicholson is best known for starring roles in Oscar winning movies like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Terms of Endearment and As Good as it Gets. But he’s also known for his rock n’ roll lifestyle, including a long term smoking habit.

"It is not so much that you fear that moment when somebody comes in and says, 'That's it. You're dead. You smoked too much,'" Nicholson told the LA TImes. "Well, that's not the real fear. The real fear is going through now the process and thinking, 'I'm dying of stupidity.'"

But Nicholson is one celeb that proves it’s never too late to give up and make the switch to vaping. Now in his 80’s, the actor took up vaping in his mid 70’s and has been spotted using his e-cigarette at multiple public events and appearances.

    Samuel L Jacksoon

The star of classic mob movies like Pulp Fiction took up smoking as far back as the 1960s. Jackson, who is also a regular star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, struggled with various addictions throughout his career, but smoking was one of the hardest to kick.

He eventually found inspiration from an unusual source: TV’s Judge Judy. “I met Judy at Tony [Howard]'s house and we used to smoke together because I used to smoke,” Jackson said on the call-in show “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen”. “So we used to sit in Tony's backyard and smoke. And when Judy stopped smoking, she made me stop smoking”.

Today, Jackson regularly posts pictures of himself with a huge variety of different vapes. In a 2015 interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Jackson pulled out his vape pen and demonstrated how to use it. He explained that he had quit smoking cigarettes and had turned to vaping instead. He even joked that he had started a "vape club" with fellow actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper.

    Leonardo DiCaprio

The man who burst onto the scene as Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s epic movie Titanic is also well known in the vaping community as a pioneer. Di Caprio struggled for years to quit smoking, and was often pictured with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth in images that soon became the centre of headlines themselves.

Di Caprio tried nicotine patches in one quit attempt, but told Parade that the experience gave him hellish nightmares.

“I usually don’t [remember my dreams]” he told Parade magazine. “But when I used a nicotine patch when I was trying to quit smoking, I did have blood curdling nightmares of mass murders, and I woke up in the middle of the night and had to take the patches off.”

Di Caprio was first spotted vaping a large open system device back in 2015, and photos of him with a range of different vapes have surfaced in celebrity magazines ever since: he was once rebuked by the American Lung Association for vaping at the Screen Actors Guild awards.

But, in an article about the ALA’s Comments, UK counterparts the British Lung Foundation were more understanding, saying “We support vaping as a means of helping people quit the far most harmful practice of smoking if they’ve tried other means and haven’t been successful.”

    Tom Hardy

British superstar Tom Hardy, best known for playing historical crime lords including Reggie Kray and Charles Bronson on the big screen, is another who made the switch to vaping after numerous quit attempts.

According to the Daily Mail, Hardy even tried a visit to “hypnotherapist to the stars” Max Kirstento to try and get off the smokes, but it seems that vaping was the route that finally worked for him.

Hardy seems to be a fan or larger format vapes: he has often been pictured with box-mod models both on set and in social settings.

    FAQs

Campaigning can be difficult, especially if it's not your full time job, but we're here to make it simpler. In this section, you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about legislative processes, advocacy strategies, and how you can effectively participate in shaping policies.

What is advocacy and how can I get involved?

Simply put, advocacy is organising a group of likeminded people who campaign for a change in government policy by talking to the people in power. This can take many forms, from posting on social media, to writing to your local politicians, to arranging meetings with the government or responding to consultations. We help by providing the information and tools you need to do this effectively.

How can I track the progress of legislation?

Government websites will usually contain a list of the legislative files that are in the process of becoming law. However, these kinds of websites are designed for legal and political professionals, and they can often be confusing for the general public. We help by keeping our ear to the ground, looking out for development in tobacco harm reduction proposals, and then make sure you have an easy-to-use summary.

What's the best way to contact my representatives?

Politicians are people too, and like everyone else, the best way to get messages to them varies from person to person. Some like email or even traditional mail, while others are constantly checking their social media feeds. They all have one thing in common though: they need to keep up to date with what matters to the people they represent. We help you find yours by keeping databases of politicians and candidates across Europe alongside all of their contact details, so you can quickly find out how to reach the person you need.

    Can I make a difference?

Yes! The only reason that harm reduction is still alive and kicking in Europe today is because people like you, with no political or campaigning background, took action to protect the availability of the products they rely on to stay smoke free. We've got lots of articles that talk about when and how this has happened in the past, which we hope will inspire you to get involved and make a difference.
