Visiting our website
Our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, processes connection information such as your IP address, browser information and requests to deliver the website and protect it against abuse. Sanity supplies our published content and images and may process connection information when your browser requests those files. We use these services for our legitimate interests in operating a reliable, secure publication. Technical records are retained according to the relevant service settings and contracts; they do not all follow our enquiry-mailbox retention period.
Contacting us
When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, subject and message so that we can respond. Cloudflare Turnstile checks submissions for spam and abuse. Resend delivers your message to our editorial mailbox. We use this information for our legitimate interests in handling correspondence and protecting our services, or to respond to a request concerning a contract where that applies.
The form does not subscribe you to our newsletter or create a separate website message database. We delete routine enquiries from our mailbox 12 months after resolution. Editorial correspondence, source material and records needed for legal obligations or disputes may be retained separately for as long as their purpose requires. Email-delivery and mailbox providers may retain their own operational records under their applicable settings and contracts.
Our newsletter
If you subscribe, Kit processes your email address, subscription status and associated subscription records to deliver Clearing the Air emails. Subscription is voluntary and you can unsubscribe using the link in our emails or by contacting us. We use your subscription consent to send the newsletter; we may retain the records needed to demonstrate consent and honour an opt-out.
Unsubscribing stops further newsletter delivery; it does not necessarily delete all historical records from Kit. You may ask us to delete your personal information. Newsletter delivery and engagement information may be processed under the existing Kit account settings. See Kit's privacy information.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 on clearingtheair.eu to understand readership and improve the website. It receives page and device information and uses browser identifiers and cookies. Our configuration removes query strings and fragments from the page and referrer URLs supplied by our own analytics initialization. Google Signals and advertising personalization are disabled. Analytics does not run on our protected preview addresses.
At launch, analytics loads automatically on the live domain. This website does not currently provide its own consent or analytics opt-out panel. Our cookie policy explains the controls available through your browser and Google.
The existing property settings retain event data for two months and user data for 14 months, with the user retention period renewed on return visits. Aggregated reporting may remain available beyond those periods. Analytics cookies are configured to expire after 180 days without automatic renewal by our configuration. These cookie and reporting periods describe different things.
Videos, advertisements and other websites
YouTube players load when you choose to play an embedded video. At that point YouTube receives information about your device and viewing request and its own privacy terms apply. Our social links and other external links take you to services with their own policies.
Our direct banner advertisements use uploaded images and links. They are not an installed behavioural advertising network. Following an advertisement takes you to the advertiser's website, which has its own privacy practices.
Who receives information and international processing
The service providers described above process information needed for their services. Authorized members of our team can access information needed to do their work. We may disclose information when required by law or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Some providers process information outside the European Economic Area. The applicable safeguards depend on the provider and service, and may include an adequacy decision or contractual safeguards. Contact us for information about the arrangements applying to your data.
Your rights
Depending on the processing and applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of your personal data, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Some rights are subject to exceptions, including obligations and protections applying to journalism and freedom of expression.

We will update this policy when our services or processing practices change. The published page will show its revision date.
