Lily Allen puffs on vape during emotional Palladium show

Lily Allen was seen vaping during an emotional performance at the London Palladium, as a host of celebrities and family members turned out to support the singer.

The appearance came during a show centred on her recent album West End Girl, which charts the breakdown of her marriage to Stranger Things actor David Harbour. The performance, described as raw and emotional, saw Allen break down in tears on stage as she delivered songs about the split.

Audience members included Florence Pugh, who has previously worked with Harbour, as well as Allen’s family and friends.

According to reports, Allen was seen puffing on a vape during the performance, a moment that stood out amid the intensity of the show.

From smoking to vaping

Allen was known to smoke cigarettes earlier in her career, but has since been seen using vapes instead. In 2019, she said she had been “a smoker for many years and needed an alternative”, highlighting a shift away from smoking that mirrors a wider trend among public figures.

She has been spotted vaping on a number of occasions in recent years, including at Cheltenham Racecourse and while on holiday, suggesting it has become her preferred form of nicotine use.

A wider celebrity trend

Allen is far from alone. A number of high-profile figures have been open about switching from smoking to vaping.

Leonardo DiCaprio, once frequently photographed with cigarettes, has been seen using a vape at major events including awards ceremonies.

Kate Garraway has said she turned to vaping after giving birth, describing it as a way to avoid returning to smoking.

Cara Delevingne has also said she switched from smoking, describing vaping as a “healthier alternative”. Meanwhile, Richard Hammond has spoken about moving from smoking to vaping nearly a decade ago.

While not all celebrities frame vaping in the same way, many accounts point to its use as an alternative to cigarettes rather than a starting point for nicotine use.

Everyday use in the spotlight

Allen’s on-stage vape moment comes during a particularly intense period for the singer, with reports suggesting she sought professional help following the end of her marriage.

Her latest album explores the emotional fallout in detail and has been met with strong reactions from fans, with audiences reportedly becoming visibly emotional during live performances.
